Inside La Casa Azul: A Room-by-Room Journey
The Living Spaces
The ground floor immerses you in the daily life of Frida and Diego. You'll see the vibrant, traditional Mexican kitchen where they cooked with firewood, the dining room where they hosted luminaries like Leon Trotsky, and living areas filled with their collection of folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, and personal photos. Each object tells a story of their passions and their deep connection to Mexican culture.
The Studio & Bedrooms
Upstairs, you enter Frida's most personal spaces. Her studio remains as she left it, with her easel (a gift from Nelson Rockefeller), pigments, and books. You will see both her daybed and her night bedroom, which contains the famous four-poster bed with the mirrored canopy where she painted her first self-portraits. Her ashes are also kept here in a pre-Hispanic urn, making it a deeply poignant space.
The Gardens & Exhibitions
The house is built around a lush central courtyard filled with tropical plants, a pyramid displaying pre-Hispanic art, and fountains. It’s a tranquil oasis that was a source of inspiration for Frida. The visit also includes galleries displaying a rotating selection of her iconic clothing, corsets, and some of her lesser-known paintings, providing a complete picture of the woman behind the art.
